Christchurch was the venue for the 2023 inscription function on 23 November. Trustees, who had gathered at the regional office of Archives New Zealand for their AGM, welcomed guests to the nearby Air Force of New Zealand Museum in Wigram.

Welcomed by Trust Chair Jane Wild, the gathering was addressed by UNESCO Commissioner Vanessa Dhiru, who spoke to UNESCO developments, especially the South Island-based new Waitaki Whitestone Geopark and Dunedin City of Literature.

Shaun Higgins, Auckland Museum, spoke eloquently about the life and photographic output of Henry Winkelmann, part of a joint nomination made with Auckland Libraries. Caroline Etherington described the extensive content of the records of the Canterbury Provincial Government, during the period of 19th century provincial management.
