Have you considered nominating a collection for the New Zealand Memory of the World Register?
October 2025
Some of the advantages of your institution having one of your collections registered on the Aotearoa New Zealand Memory of the World programme are:
• Ensure that our history and stories are not forgotten
• Highlight the significance of the information / knowledge contained in collections
• Recognition by an independent organisation (UNESCO)
• Public recognition of the importance of documentary heritage
• Publicity and promotion for your institution
• Increased possibility of attracting resources to care for, preserve and promote the collection
Nominations are now being called for the 2026 Aotearoa New Zealand Memory of the World programme. We offer advice and assistance through an Expression of Interest (EoI) to give feedback about suitability for a nomination.
Our Memory of the World programme is one of over 60 Memory of the World programmes worldwide. It was established in 2010 by the New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO. A major function is the maintenance and promotion of a national Register, accessible online.
The New Zealand Committee members have a broad knowledge of New Zealand’s heritage institutions and communities.
