Lance Richdale Papers

2016

Otago Peninsula’s unique Royal Albatross colony features significantly in Lance Richdale’s papers documenting his internationally recognised contributions to ornithological knowledge and conservation.

By studying specific populations of birds in detail for long periods of time, Richdale created in his papers a rich resource of scientific data in a variety of media. His use of motion picture film is very likely a New Zealand first. The 83 reels of film have been digitised and may be viewed in the Hocken Collections.
